Use and exposure to tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in Canada. More than 13,000 Ontario residents die from tobacco-related illness every year.

Our goal is to reduce the use of tobacco products in Lambton County by:

  • Preventing tobacco use, especially among youth
  • Providing quit support for smokers
  • Eliminating second-hand smoke in the workplace

Smoking in the Workplace

It is illegal to smoke in the workplace … No ifs. No butts.
If you think someone is smoking in a workplace, including a workplace vehicle, like a cab or truck, tell us the details, and we'll check it out.

A Tobacco Enforcement Officer from Lambton Public Health will respond to all complaints/inquiries as soon as possible. All information is private.

Smoking Outdoors

Smoking or holding lit tobacco is illegal:

  • Within 20 metres of playgrounds and sporting areas
  • Schools and school grounds
  • Bar and restaurant patios and some special events depending on location and proximity to prohibited spaces (playgrounds and sporting areas)
  • Hospital grounds
  • Grounds of Ontario government buildings
