Active Outdoors

This page was reviewed or revised on Thursday, December 3, 2015 3:29 PM

The outdoors offers great opportunities to be active any time of the year. Whether you take to local trails, ride your bike, cross country ski or hit the beach, outdoor activity is easily accessible and fun! Studies indicate that compared with exercising indoors, exercising in natural outdoor environments is associated with greater feelings of revitalisation, increased energy and positive engagement. Participants also report greater enjoyment and satisfaction with outdoor activity and are more likely to repeat the activity at a later date.

Physical Activity Resource Lending Program

Physical activity is important for good health and wellbeing. It reduces stress, strengthens the heart and lungs, increases energy levels, helps maintain and achieve a healthy body weight, and will help improve your outlook on life.

For children, regular physical activity is needed for healthy growth and development. When adults are active, it allows daily tasks to be done with greater ease, comfort, and with less fatigue. Inside the brochure, you will find a variety of resources to help you stay physically active.
