Immunization

Medical science has created safe and effective vaccines that have prevented countless cases of disease and saved millions of lives that once injured or killed thousands of children each year.

Many of those deadly diseases are now very rare. Diseases once common to Canada, such as polio and measles, are now prevented by vaccine.

Vaccines are only made available after a long and careful review by scientists, doctors, and health care professionals. Most vaccine side effects are minor and usually at the site of the needle. Extreme reactions are rare.
