A School Wellness Council is a vital part of a successful healthy school program.
The council consists of a team of people who care about the health and well-being of their school and the surrounding school community. It may include:
School staff and administrators
Community members and partner organizations
Goals of a School Wellness Council:
Improve health behaviours, knowledge, habits and attitudes in the entire school community.
Nurture an inclusive and supportive environment for students to live, learn and grow.
Support and integrate the surrounding community in health supporting activities and initiatives - "it takes a village to raise a child."
Provide a forum for the school community to discuss health and well-being.
Help is available to each school to establish a wellness council. For more information, contact the School Wellness Coordinator by email: email@example.com or call: 519-383-8331 or 1-800-667-1839.
