A School Wellness Council is a vital part of a successful healthy school program.

The council consists of a team of people who care about the health and well-being of their school and the surrounding school community. It may include:

  • School staff and administrators
  • Students representatives
  • Parents/guardians
  • Community members and partner organizations

Goals of a School Wellness Council:

  • Improve health behaviours, knowledge, habits and attitudes in the entire school community.
  • Nurture an inclusive and supportive environment for students to live, learn and grow.
  • Support and integrate the surrounding community in health supporting activities and initiatives - "it takes a village to raise a child."
  • Provide a forum for the school community to discuss health and well-being.

Help is available to each school to establish a wellness council. For more information, contact the School Wellness Coordinator by email: healthyschools@county-lambton.on.ca or call: 519-383-8331 or 1-800-667-1839.
