Your best advice for any emergency is to be prepared, not scared. If a disaster occurs in your community that affects a large number of people in a short period of time it may take emergency workers some time to get to you and your family as they need to help all those in desperate need first.
The government of Canada has set out three basic steps to emergency preparedness that will help ensure you have the ability to take care of yourself and your family for a minimum of 72 hours.
Emergency Management Ontario has also designed an easy to use website to help individuals and families be better prepared for an emergency. The website has added specific sections to help seniors, people with disabilities, and pet owners.
