Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in Canada. About 1 in 3 cancers diagnosed in Ontario are skin cancer.

What causes skin cancer?

Most types of skin cancer are caused by too much Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or other sources, like tanning beds.
A tan is your skin's response to the damage to skin cells by UV rays. There's no such thing as a safe tan. Protecting the skin from UV rays can prevent most cases of skin cancer.
