Walking is one of the greatest ways to fit physical activity into your day. It is an ideal form of exercise at any age. Walking and other forms of exercise can help lower blood pressure and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints. It also can have psychological benefits by curbing anxiety and depression symptoms, improving mood and fostering a sense of well-being. You can walk in the snow, in the rain or on a sunny day. Go on a walking vacation; for a hike or trek down a trail. Walk in a mall, along the waterfront or to the store. It is free, can be done anywhere, by anyone at any time.

Everyone, including people with Type 2 diabetes and older adults, benefits from increasing their physical activity. However, many of us struggle to get started and stay with an exercise program. If you have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, walking can help you manage your disease. Lambton County offers many great parks, trails and walking programs to help get you started.

Pedometers are a great walking tool to help set and achieve your walking goals. Research studies show that using a step counter (pedometer) helps individuals to get motivated and attain their walking goals. Lambton County libraries offer a pedometer lending program for community residents. Walking Programs in Lambton

A little walking every day is far better than an occasional weekend bout of frenzied activity. Health Canada recommends 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity per week, in bouts of 10 minutes or more. More physical activity provides greater health benefits. Attend one of the Walking Programs offered in Lambton County.
