Shelter Food Donation

Just as home prepared foods are not permitted within a restaurant, Lambton Public Health (LPH) also recommends that public food donations prepared at home should not be accepted within an Emergency Shelter.

While local volunteers are eager to help by bringing prepared foods to the shelters, Public Health has the responsibility to ensure that food is safe for people to consume. All foods must be stored, prepared, served, and distributed in a manner consistent with acceptable public health practices. LPH has to ensure that any food being prepared outside of the shelter is done so in a premise consistent with acceptable public health practices in regards to sanitation and food handling.
