'Call the Shots' to Avoid School Suspension

This page was reviewed or revised on Thursday, December 7, 2017 9:28 AM

Point Edward, ON - More than 3,200 Immunization Information Notice letters will be sent by Lambton Public Health next week to remind parents of children attending daycare or school that their child's immunization, or immunization history, is not up-to-date.

Families who receive the notice have until January 27, 2018 to update their child's records. If an update is not provided to public health, the child faces suspension in March 2018.

"Our goal is to provide a safe and healthy environment for all children," says Erin Courtney, Health Protection Supervisor at Lambton Public Health. "To do so, parents must notify us each time their child receives an immunization."

In Ontario, students must be immunized, or in the process of being immunized, to attend school, unless legally exempt.

"Not everyone will require immunization. For some it's just a matter of updating their child's record," added Courtney. "Parents are responsible for their child's immunization status, and for reporting their child's immunizations to public health."

Parents must Call the Shots, every time their child receives an immunization. Options to report immunizations to Lambton Public Health include:

  1. Website: lambtonhealth.on.ca (See Report Immunizations button)
  2. Mail or bring records to: 160 Exmouth St., Point Edward, ON N7T 7Z6
  3. Call: 519-383-8331 ext. 3589 or 3554, or toll-free 1-800-667-1839
