Food Handler Certification Program

The Food Handler Certification Course is designed to teach food handlers the general principles of safe food handling. This course will provide the food handler with:

Anyone who prepares and handles food will benefit from this course.

The County of Lambton By-law No. 30 of 2010 "A By-law to Regulate the Disclosure of Food Safety Inspection Information to the Public and Regulate Mandatory Food Handler Certification" requires a certified food handler be present at a high or moderate risk food premises at all times during operation to supervise the preparation, processing, packaging, service and storage of food.

Training Options

Food Handler - Certification Class and Exam

This is a one day course and exam taught by a Certified Public Health Inspector. Class size is a maximum of 25 people. All resources and exam is included in the cost.

Food Handler - Home Study Package

Study at your own pace. The training manual and written exam is included in the cost. Clients can pickup the Home Study Package at Lambton Public after registration and payment is completed online or at the main office.

When you are ready, review the available exam dates and contact Lambton Public Health. You will be added to the scheduled exam at no cost.

Other Safe Food Handling Courses (including online)

Lambton Public Health recognizes valid food safety training certificates awarded by other Ontario public health units and certification agencies recognized by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care as meeting minimum requirements for the food handler training and certification.

Re-Certification Options

Certification is valid for five (5) years from date of issue.
